Mitchell Campaign Releases Finance Report

Combat Veteran and Small Business Owner Launched Campaign 10 days before deadline

Ashburn - The Shawn Mitchell for State Senate campaign today announced their June 30^th end of quarter fundraising total. Mitchell, a Democrat and first time candidate, is running for the open 13^th Senate District seat.

“The support we have received is exciting,” said Mitchell Campaign Manager, Dominic Gabello. “Voters of the 13^th District are looking for a mainstream candidate - one who will listen to their views and vote for the interests of the district, not those of a political party while in Richmond.”

The campaign officially launched on June 21^st and raised $20,854.75 from nearly 100 contributors and has almost $15,000 cash on hand through June 30^th. Donations came from a mix of Democrats, Republicans and Independents, with more than half of the contributions coming from first-time political donors.

“Shawn brings the right mix of experience and background to this race,” Gabello added. “As a combat veteran and a small business owner, Shawn understands the challenges that families and businesses in the 13^th are facing from sitting in traffic to balancing their budgets, or trying to spend more time with their loved ones. Residents of the 13^th want someone who understands those challenges and will work to improve their quality of life.”

Shawn Mitchell lives in Broadlands with his wife Ashley and daughter Isabella. He is a combat veteran and owns a small business in the 13^th District. The 13^th Senate District stretches from the Maryland and West Virginia borders in Loudoun County to Gainesville and Bull Run in Prince William County.

Thank you so much for all of your support throughout this campaign. While the results didn't turn out the way we wanted last night, we ran a tough, spirited campaign that we are extremely proud of.

We started this campaign with a small list of friends and family and have grown that by leaps and bounds. We knocked on more than 30,000 doors, made more than 10,000 phone calls and raised more than $350,000 from more than 450 unique donors. For a first-time candidate, I'd say that's pretty impressive.

I want to say a special thanks to Senator Mark Warner, Governor Tim Kaine, Terry McAuliffe, Senator Mark Herring, Senator Chuck Colgan, Senator Charlie Waddell, Senator John Chichester, Senator Russ Potts, AOBA, NVTC TechPAC, NV/R PAC, DAAR, PWAR, VEA, LEA, Virginia AFL-CIO, Mid-Atlantic Laborers Council, NARAL Pro-Choice VA, Virginia NOW, VPFF, VALCV, VA Sierra Club, the Washington Post and Loudoun Times-Mirror for their support in this campaign.
