Ashburn, VA – Shawn Mitchell, candidate for Virginia State Senate, District 13 released the following statement in regards to the proposed formula change to the local road maintenance fund as referenced in the Leesburg Today on Friday, October 14, 2011.
“Regarding the reduction of $716,891.65 for the Town of Leesburg and $247,965.57 for the Town of Purcellville in state provided maintenance funding, I was outraged that career politicians like Dick Black want to continue to pass the buck on developing a comprehensive transportation solution that will get Northern Virginians finally moving. If anybody thinks Dick Black’s politics-as-usual can get us out of this problem, they aren’t paying attention. Dick Black has been part of the career politician “NO” crowd in Richmond that has stifled any progress on so many critical issues. We are in desperate need of new leadership from people who understand how to create jobs and will work across party lines to develop a comprehensive transportation solution.
“When I’m your Senator, I will stand up to the leadership of either party that proposes the wrong solutions for our district and doesn’t provide us the relief we need. I will also fight to keep more of our taxpayers’ dollars here in Northern Virginia.
“The most important question today is: will Delegate Dick Black stand with me in opposition to this plan that forces localities to raise taxes to make up for this loss of transportation funds or will he continue to stand with the ‘NO’ crowd of Richmond that’s having a serious negative impact on our quality of life here in Northern Virginia?”
