Russ Potts Endorses Mitchell for State Senate

Cites Mitchell's Focus on Creating Jobs in Support

Ashburn, VA – Today, former Republican Senator and Independent candidate for Governor Russ Potts endorsed Shawn Mitchell for State Senate.

"I'm proud to endorse Shawn Mitchell for the State Senate. He will make a great Senator.

“Shawn will focus on jobs, jobs, jobs and our economic challenges — not on abortion and a divisive social agenda. A Senator Mitchell will work across the aisle to create jobs and support public education.

“I represented Loudoun County in the Senate and I know that Loudoun is mainstream, middle of the road and expects a Senator to work across party lines in a bipartisan fashion."

Russ Potts was a state Senator from 1992 until 2008 and represented parts of Loudoun County now in the 13^thSenate District.

“I’m really honored to have Senator Potts’ endorsement in this campaign,” said Shawn Mitchell. “The bi-partisan support we’re receiving is a testament to the type of Senator I plan to be: someone who rolls up his sleeves and goes to Richmond, works across the aisle and gets the people’s work done.”

“Too many families in Loudoun and Prince William counties are worried about the economy and their jobs, why their kids are being taught in trailers and for how long will they have to sit in traffic tonight. When I get elected, I plan to tackle these challenges and will work very hard to improve our quality of life, so we continue to make the 13^th District a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

Shawn Mitchell lives in Broadlands with his wife Ashley and daughter Isabella. He is a combat veteran who served in Bosnia and Iraq and owns a small business in the 13^thDistrict. Shawn has been endorsed by Senator Mark Warner, the Washington Post, the NVTC TechPAC, three local REALTOR Associations, the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters, the Loudoun Education Association and many others. Thank you so much for all of your support throughout this campaign. While the results didn't turn out the way we wanted last night, we ran a tough, spirited campaign that we are extremely proud of.

We started this campaign with a small list of friends and family and have grown that by leaps and bounds. We knocked on more than 30,000 doors, made more than 10,000 phone calls and raised more than $350,000 from more than 450 unique donors. For a first-time candidate, I'd say that's pretty impressive.

I want to say a special thanks to Senator Mark Warner, Governor Tim Kaine, Terry McAuliffe, Senator Mark Herring, Senator Chuck Colgan, Senator Charlie Waddell, Senator John Chichester, Senator Russ Potts, AOBA, NVTC TechPAC, NV/R PAC, DAAR, PWAR, VEA, LEA, Virginia AFL-CIO, Mid-Atlantic Laborers Council, NARAL Pro-Choice VA, Virginia NOW, VPFF, VALCV, VA Sierra Club, the Washington Post and Loudoun Times-Mirror for their support in this campaign.
